Amazon has made a real commitment to educators. They plan to launch an online learning materials portal for educators. Though they are staying quiet about the details it is believed that it will be “free and unlimited”. A waiting list is currently available on the company’s website through which educators can sign up for more information.

The online “Amazon Education” offers a brief summary of the service:

The future of education is open. Someday soon, educators everywhere will have free and unlimited access to first-class course materials from a revolutionary platform. Get on the wait list to be notified when the platform is available for all schools and classrooms!

The Amazon Education project will probably integrate with the Kindle tablets and e-readers. This isn’t the first time Amazon’s tried to break into education. Amazon acquisition of the online math company TenMarks in 2013 was clearly an indicator of their intent to break into the education market.
